Li Chengchen: Foreign Language Learning Boredom: Conceptualization and Measurement

At 2 p.m. on June 22, 2021, Li Chengchen, who works at School of Foreign Languages, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), was invited by the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University and the Asia-Pacific Language Policy Research Center to hold an offline lecture on the theme of “Foreign Language Learning Boredom: Conceptualization and Measurement”. 

Li Chengchen, Ph.D in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, is a master’s supervisor of School of Foreign Languages, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research interests include positive psychology, psycholinguistics, rural foreign language education as well as multilingualism and multilingual education. She is not only the coeditor of Studies in Second Language Learning and Teaching, but also the guest editor in chief of Foreign Language World and Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development respectively once. What’s more, she is also an external auditor of Applied Linguistics, Modern Language Journal, Modern Foreign Languages, Foreign Language World and other journals. 

During the lecture, Dr. Li first introduced the research background, significance, theories and tools involved in her thesis, followed by an in-depth analysis of concept making and scale design of foreign language learning boredom, and finally put forward her summary and prospect of related researches on foreign language learning boredom. The lecture lasted for two hours. Dr. Li’s valuable research experience helped the participants broaden their horizons and enrich their professional knowledge.
