Yangzhou----For celebration of the 30th anniversary of Jiangsu Intercollegiate Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association (JIFLTR), an academic symposium as its 2014 annual meeting was held at Yangzhou University from Nov. 28th to 30th. As many as 160 representatives from 110 colleges and universities of Jiangsu Province attended the conference, among whom were Prof. Chen Meihua and Prof. Zhu Hongqing, dean and deputy dean of SEU Foreign Languages School.
Ding Xiaomao, deputy director-general of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and Hu Xiaoya, vice president of Yangzhou University, also attended the opening ceremony.
Prof. Li Xiaoxiang, director of SEU Educational Development Center and president of JIFLTR, delivered a working report. Invited to give keynote academic reports were Prof. Wang Shouren, chairman of the National Foreign Languages Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, Prof. Yang Zhizhong, Prof. Yan Jin and Prof. Wu Jiang, members of the National College English Brand Four and Six Testing Committee.
Representatives from Nanjing University, Nanjing Normal University, Soochow University, Chinese People’s Liberation Army University of International Relations and other key universities reported on their achievements in teaching reform, discipline construction, talents team-building and international exchanges. Prof. Chen Meihua was also invited to make a speech, mainly reporting on our school’s accomplishments in teaching reform and discipline construction over the last two years. The research-oriented model for college English teaching and the teaching reform for postgraduates of non-English majors implemented at our university drew particular attention and interest from the participants.
Upon the 30th anniversary of the Association, the organizing committee conferred the JIFLTR Award for Outstanding Contribution to Foreign Language Teaching on prof. Yang Zhizhong and seven other professors. The late professors, Shi Gaoyu and Jing Shenghua, were posthumously granted the award as well.
In the Standing Council reelection that followed, Prof. Li Xiaoxiang was reelected as President of JIFLTR, Prof. Chen Meihua as Executive Member, and Prof. Zhu Hongqing as Executive Member and Secretary General.
