On Oct.25th, 2014, the finals of Jiangsu division of FLTRP Cup national English writing contest took place in Nanjing Forestry University. Students from the English Department of the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University, Zhang Yinan, Shao Yunyun and Lu Qiuchen, participated in the contest. Zhang Yinan won the special prize and made her way to the national finals, representing students from Jiangsu. Shao Yunyun and Lu Qiuchen won the second and third prize respectively. The two-hour contest provided college students of Jiangsu with the opportunities of learning from others and demonstrating themselves. Before the contest, Prof. Zheng Yuqi helped the three contestants from the English department to prepare for the contest.
The contestants were asked to write two essays of about 500 words, one argumentative essay and another expository essay, within two hours. The total score of each contestant is the sum of the two essays scored by both computerized evaluation software and a human evaluator. Experts of English language teaching in Jiangsu were invited by the Contest committee to be the judges who executed the scoring process according to preset criteria.
The 2014 “FLTRP Cup” national English writing contest is sponsored by the College English Committee and the English Major Committee of the ELT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association of Higher Education Institutions of Jiangsu Province and the East China Information Center of FLTR Press set up the Organizing Committee of the Jiangsu division of this writing contest. Manjing Forestry University organized this regional final of Jiangsu.
