Southeast-Hokkaido University Exchange Day was Successfully Held in Southeast University

On November 18th, Southeast-Hokkaido University Exchange Day, hosted by the School of Foreign Languages, was held on the Nine-Dragon-Lake Campus of Southeast University. The leaders of Southeast University and Hokkaido University attended this event, including Pu Yuepu, Vice-President of Southeast University, Ueta Ichiro, Vice President of Hokkaido University, Wada Osamu, Director of the Beijing Office of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Nozawa Toshitaka, Director of the Beijing Office of Hokkaido University, Nabae Yuzo, Dean of the Department of International Cooperation of Hokkaido University, Wang Li, Deputy Dean of the Department of International Cooperation of Southeast University, Ma Qiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University, and Liu Kehua, Vice-Dean of the School of Foreign Languages.

At 9:30 a.m., the leaders of Southeast University and Hokkaido University had a cordial talk and exchanged their views on cultural, academic and scientific research exchanges in the meeting hall of the School of Foreign Languages. After the talk an opening ceremony for the Exchange Day was held in the recital hall of the Student Activity Center. More than 200 teachers and students from the two universities attended the opening ceremony, which was presided by Ma Qiang, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Language, Southeast University.

Pu Yuepu, Vice-President of Southeast University, in his address on the opening ceremony, extended his heartfelt welcome to the delegation led by Ueta Ichiro, Vice President of Hokkaido University. Mr. Pu reviewed the exchanges of the two universities at all levels since they set up their friendly cooperation in 2010. He also gave sincere gratitude to Hokkaido University for its continued efforts to accept and facilitate students from Southeast University to study in Hokkaido University and expressed his best wishes for the further consolidation of the friendship between the two universities.

Uwada Ichiro, Vice-President of Hokkaido University, introduced the history and the management principles of Hokkaido University and also expressed his wishes to cooperate with Southeast University.

Wada Osamu, Director of the Beijing Office of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, introduced the academic status of Hokkaido University both at home and abroad.
Nozawa Toshitaka, Director of the Beijing Office of Hokkaido University, gave a detailed and also humorous speech on the history, development, disciplinary programs and international exchange programs of Hokkaido University. His fluent Chinese won the acclaim from all in attendance.

Various disciplinary seminars were held in the afternoon. Faculty members and students from Hokkaido University had an in-depth exchange with their counterparts from the School of Computing, the School of Foreign Languages and the Department of Physics of Southeast University. The seminar held by the School of Foreign languages of Southeast University and the School of Education of Hokkaido University attracted numerous students and enjoyed a warm atmosphere. Two undergraduates from the Department of Japanese of the School of Foreign Languages are currently studying in Hokkaido University. Liu Kehua, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, exchanged his ideas about further cooperation with Nozaw Toshitaka, Director of the Beijing Office of Hokkaido University.

Hokkaido University, founded in 1876, is one of the seven well-famous national universities in Japan, and is also the first university entitled to grant the bachelor’s degree. Hokkaido University is comprised of two campuses situated in Sapporo and Hakodate. Known as a comprehensive research-oriented university, it runs 12 undergraduate programs, 18 graduate programs, 3 affiliated research institutions, 3 national facilities for shared education and research, and numerous other university-level facilities for shared education and research. Up to now, extensive exchanges in a wide range of disciplinary areas have been carried out since Southeast University and Hokkaido University signed the agreement on cooperation and student exchange in 2010.
