Salon of Translation and Chinese Culture Communication held in SEU

On October 31, Salon of Translation and Chinese Culture Communication was held in the lecture hall of School of Foreign Languages in SEU, JiuLong Lake Campus. This Salon was sponsored by the School of Foreign Languages of SEU. Directors of Schools of Foreign Languages in Nanjing Universality, Nanjing Normal University, NUAA, Nanjing Agricultural University, NUIST, representatives of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, Nanjing University Press, SEU Press and representatives of Jiangsu Branch Center of Language Service Competence Assessment and Training Center of China Translation Association, Social Sciences Department of SEU, Teacher Development Center, School of Overseas Education, library, teachers and students took part in this activity.

Under the background of the worldwide boom of Chinese culture, the representatives focused on Chinese culture, especially on the going-out of Chinese culture and the role of translation in the strengthening of this soft power. Meanwhile, in-depth communication and discussion were held focusing on the training mode of college qualified translators and C-E translation.

   Chen Meihua, Dean of SEU School of Foreign Languages, delivered a welcoming speech. Vice-chairman of Translators Association of China, Chairman of Association of Comparative Literature in Translation, Professor Xu Jun from Nanjing University, member of Committee of Chinese International Education Master Degree of Ministry of Education, Cheng Aimin, Dean of School of Overseas Education in Nanjing University delivered a speech respectively. Experts and scholars underwent a discussion on related topics. Ma Qiang, Secretary of the CPC, delivered a closing speech.

It is reported that translation is the major postgraduate program at School of Foreign Languages in Southeast University. In 2014, 70% of the postgraduate students are in translation program. Meanwhile, SEU-Monash Suzhou Joint Institute has recruited 34 graduates in translation program.
